2018-03-11 - Lone Mountain   12 Photos   Mar 11, 2018

I started just before the rain, which came in below me so I made it to the summit without getting wet. On the descent I passed through the clouds feeling a slight misting all the way to the end.

Return trip to Black Mountain in the Boulder Mountain Quadrangle, a mere 5-1/2 years later. Planned to ascend from the north and descend my old route to the east, but stuck with the north due to active shooters below the eastern slope.

A far cry for the lush conditions of a year ago.

2018-03-07 - Ruin Hunt   14 Photos   Mar 7, 2018

With vague information of a possible ruin site we set off on a 'ruin hunt'. Unfortunately due to worse-than-expected road conditions the hike turned out to be longer than planned. Add misjudging the first ascent it got to be more than we bargained for at this stage of my recovery from back surgery.

A 2.2 hour 5 mile 869' AEG hike from Forest Road 329 to the P B Ranch along the old mining road. Our trip was made easier by all the brush-clearing by the Forest Service as a fire-break last year. (Two men named Pendleton and Barkley ran 200 head of cattle in this area until selling out to miners in 1910.)
